Jacksonville State University
Office of Continuing Education and Outreach
Statement of Policy
SCHOOL INFORMATION
Jacksonville State University’s Office of Continuing Education and Outreach is approved by the Alabama Real Estate Commission (Approval # 69727) for the purpose of offering the distance education courses listed in Appendix A located on page 7.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of Jacksonville State University’s Office of Continuing Education and Outreach is to provide high-quality distance education courses to real estate licensees and licensee candidates in support of state-mandated education programs for licensure and ongoing professional competency.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Real Estate Salesperson Prelicense
Prelicense courses are offered to the general public to satisfy the educational requirements for licensure by the appropriate jurisdictions. The content coverage is guided by state licensure requirements and designed to provide quality educational preparation for licensed activities in the real estate brokerage business. The primary focus is on providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to protect the public in its dealings with real estate professionals. The course is designed to take a student with no background knowledge of the subject to a level of knowledge that is acceptable to operate in a professional manner in the industry. To meet these overall objectives, the course of study will provide (among others):
· a thorough understanding of the legal underpinnings of real estate practice and a working
knowledge of specific relevant laws and regulations.
· a working knowledge of the principles and practices necessary to engage in the real estate
business
· an appreciation for and a thorough knowledge of the responsibilities owed to customers,
clients, and other professionals in the real estate brokerage business
Post License and Real Estate Continuing Education
Post License and Continuing Education courses are offered to licensees to enhance their professionalism, thereby fostering the protection of the public, by:
· acquiring new knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant to the conduct of their duties,
· refreshing their knowledge of core principles and practices,
· advancing their knowledge of selected advanced topics, and
· acquiring updated knowledge of content topics that change over time.
The acquisition of the above listed Prelicense, Post License, and Continuing Education information is provided in the context of an educational methodology that insures that the material is:
· understood at a conceptual level
· able to be used in a fluent manner by the learner
· able to be applied to practical situations
Finally, the courses are designed to document the attainment of mastery and evaluated objectively and quantitatively to insure that transfer of knowledge actually occurs.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
- Our online courses require an internet connection of 56K modem or greater, at least 800x600 screen resolution, sufficient memory to run system software, and an internet browser.

REQUIRMENTS FOR COMPLETING THE COURSE
To complete the course and receive a Certificate of Completion, you must successfully complete all of the following requirements:
· Complete ALL instructional lessons in the course by answering each question correctly at least twice.
Most questions are timed, and need to be answered within the prescribed time for credit.
A lesson is not complete until it is checked off on the main menu.
- Once all the lessons on the computer have been completed, you MUST submit a signed and dated student Affidavit to Jacksonville State University’s Office of Continuing Education certifying that you personally completed each assigned lesson of instruction. It is required by state law that the Student Affidavit must be received in our office before a Certificate of Completion can be issued. See page 8 for the Student Affidavit.
· Pass the appropriate course final examination with a score of 70% correct or better (see Appendix A on page 7 for a list of courses and exam requirements).
SUPPLEMENTAL COURSE MATERIALS
Some courses contain printed material to be used along with the computer lessons. Any supplemental course material other than textbooks will be available only in PDF format. Any such materials can be viewed and printed using Acrobat Reader 6.0 or higher. If you do not have Acrobat Reader 6.0 or greater, it is available as a free download upon registration. Printed versions of these materials will not be supplied to you. However, if the course requires a textbook, it will be shipped via UPS Ground (when you register, be sure to use a street address and not a P.O. Box number.)
CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS
You have the right to cancel your registration for any reason within seven business days from the date of purchase; however, you will be charged a cancellation fee of 15% of the total purchase amount. Requests for cancellation of a registration must be made by contacting Jacksonville State University’s Office of Continuing Education by phone, fax, or e-mail. The request must be received by Jacksonville State University’s Office of Continuing Education before midnight of the fifth business day from the date of purchase. Also, if the course includes one or more textbooks, the books must be returned at the student’s expense. The request for cancellation will not be processed until any book(s) are returned to the school in reusable condition. No registration will be cancelled if the request to cancel is not made within the five business day policy. Refunds for cancellations outside the seven business day policy will only be issued under the following condition:
- If a student purchases an Online course and experiences technical difficulties which The CE Shop technical support deems irresolvable, then the student may be granted a refund. After a technician determines that your technical problem is irresolvable, you will be instructed to contact Jacksonville State University’s Office of Continuing Education to initiate a refund. PLEASE NOTE: Tech Support cannot issue a refund to you under any circumstances.
A refund will NOT be issued to any student who purchases a course and later finds that they cannot satisfy the minimum system requirements for running the course. Here are some examples of situations in which a refund will NOT be issued:
- A student does not have at least Windows XP and is unwilling to upgrade to Windows XP or higher.
- A student purchases an online course and does not have Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher and is unwilling to upgrade to IE 5.5 or higher.
- A student decides he/she cannot complete the course.
